For more inspiration and ideas, I focused my research into the use of mixed media in the fashion sector particularly illustrations, photography as well as advertising.
I came across a variety of artists and designers. Graphic designer and Fashion illustrator, Mustafa Soydan uses a variety of materials and mixed media to create his work. With a wide range of styles – from watercolour, pencil, airbrush, to collage. Each piece is different and has many elements to it that makes it intriguing and exciting to look at. Below are a range of my favourite pieces.
Each piece is visually exciting and intriguing to look at. As a viewer you form different opinions and comments about what the piece is trying to tell you, which is what I really enjoy about his work. The use of different materials and choice of colours used further help add to a a very successful concept design.
Nikki Farquharson is a freelance Graphic artist who’s unique work includes a unique variety of collage, photography, typography and bold color combinations and patterns. She draws and colours intricate patterns by hand using materials ranging from pencils, fine liner pens and felt tips. Some of her work incorporates her hand drawings with photographs, and even collages which are created digitally. (images taken from: http://www.nikkifarquharson.com/)
What immediately catches my attention when looking at her work is the bold, print patterns and colours she uses. It is clear to see that this is her signature, unique style which works very well in grabbing the eye of the audience.
Nair is a visual artist, illustrator and art director focusing is work primarily in mixed media, illustration and digital art.“Archan is inspired by various phases and forms of life to create highly intricate works that connect the various dimensions of our existence.” Below is a spring/summer campaign art directed and illustrated by Archan for Zu Shoes.
In my opinion I believe this is a more subtle approach to mixed media in fashion advertising, which again works well. The choice of colours, shapes and images used to create each final piece compliments one another very well.
From the research I have undergone I particularly like the use of fashion illustrations using a range of different medias to create an advertisement. This style/technique really allows one to explore different boundaries and experiment a lot to create something that will attract the audiences eye.
Continuing from this post, I will further look at fashion advertising in an unconventional way to see what has already been created as well as generate more ideas.
